The approved route of Karaj Urban Railway Line 5 begins at the intersection with Line 3 at Shahid Moazen Boulevard and Azadi Street. The extension along Azadi Street is designed as a tunnel that passes beneath Line 2. This line shares a joint structure with the Mehrvila underpass to cross the Tehran-Karaj Freeway.

South of the Tehran-Karaj Freeway, it also passes under Line 1 of the Karaj Urban Railway and the Azerbaijan National Railway, then continues from the beginning to the end of Mohammadshahr Boulevard as an elevated route.

The total length of Karaj Urban Railway Line 5 is 13 Km—8.2 km of tunnel and 4.8 km of aerial route—with 10 stations. Iran Oston Consulting Engineers is responsible for the studies along this axis.
