The operation of the Yazd-Eqlid railway with a length of 271 kilometers has startedin2010. The main goal of the project is to connect Yazd to Fars province and complete the two industrial and mining centers of the country and reduce the distance between Shiraz and Mashhad by 310 kilometers. The capacity of the project is 7 million tons of cargoand 3 million passengers in 20 years.
