Manjil – Rudbar Freeway

Manjil – Rudbar Freeway

Manjil – Rudbar Freeway

The Qazvin–Rasht Freeway is a vital transportation corridor in northern Iran, forming part of one of the four main routes crossing the Alborz mountain range, along with the Chalus, Haraz, Firuzkuh, and Rasht roads. This freeway plays a significant role in facilitating the movement of goods and passengers into the fertile and touristic region of Gilan Province.

The total length of the Qazvin–Rasht Freeway is approximately 138 Km, of which around 127 Km were completed several years ago. However, a remaining 11-Km stretch in the Manjil–Rudbar area has faced prolonged delays due to the mountainous and impassable terrain, the presence of the Sefidrud River, the proximity of the cities of Manjil and Rudbar, as well as technical and social challenges.

The completion of the Imamzadeh Hashem–Qazvin freeway is a key component of this route, serving as part of the international north–south transportation corridor. Engineering studies and supervision for the project have been conducted by Iran Oston Consulting Engineers.

The freeway’s first section, measuring 3.2 Km, was opened in 2016, followed by the second section, the Manjil–Rudbar Freeway, which became operational in March 2017.
